SCW Clay Club

In this class you will make the pieces to make a wall hanging. We will glaze and carve designs into the glaze. I will provide patterns for the pieces and the patterns for the designs to carve into the glaze. You will have time to plan your wall hanging. (Colors to use, shapes and designs) and glaze and carve at least 2 or 3 of the pieces.

DAY BEFORE CLASS: Roll out a slab of Red Stone clay, approximately 12” x 12” and 3/8” thick. Place it between 2 of the older ware boards made of sheet rock to sit overnight. The clay will be dry enough for class the following day.

Bring to Class:

• Red Stone clay you prepared the day before
• Needle tool
• Carving tools (on Amazon- Zuoyou 6 PCS Clay Pottery Tool Set is $5.99)
• Small glazing brushes
• Soft rib
• Small straight edge (ie: 6 inch ruler)
• Shredding tool/clay rasp (if you have one)
• 3 or 4 complementary colors of Stroke and Coat glazes if you have them. Colors I have used on Red Stone (yellows, oranges, sour apple, aqua blue shades, black and white)
• Soft brush (Dollar Store makeup brush)
• Water misting bottle (plastic, no glass allowed)
• If you have an 8”x 8” plastic container with lid to keep your unfinished pieces damp until you have time to complete them.

Note:

I will have a few colors available for those who do not have the glazes, a few extra brushes, and a few extra carving tools. As of this posting, most stores (including the manufacturer) are out of the colors I usually order.
