This class is for the members that feels they would like to get a little more experience in hand-building. During this 3 week class students will expand on their basic hand-building skills to make a table top totem consisting of learning to build a box, ball and topper. Each week the student will make the piece demonstrated in class and then they need to make a second piece before the next class on their own time. At the end of the class, the student will have the components for a 5 piece table top totem. This class is designed with the newer members in mind but is open to any member struggling with basic hand-building techniques. This class will be offered quarterly.
Supplies Required:
- Clay of your choice (preferably a clay with grog such as Speckled Buff or Redstone)
- Basic clay tools
- Mat to work on
- Slip to match clay body (bring plenty as we will be using quite a bit)
- 45 degree angle cutter (we sell these in the club)
- Hole cutter (needs to be large enough to fit the rod you will use to build your totem once finished. Remember shrinkage will occur.)
- Texture and/or sprig molds you may want to use to embellish your pieces
- 5-6” square cookie cutter or template to cut your sides (week 1)
- Styrofoam half ball (week 2)
