Pinching clay to create sculptures, bowls, vases…is one of the oldest pottery techniques. In this class you will pinch a little pot/cup to learn this fun basic technique. You will learn how to refine pinch pots to make them look more professional/finished. You will learn how to pinch clay into sculptural shapes, how to assemble pinch pots to create more complicated pieces and you will also learn various ways to decorate your finished work.
Bring to Class:
- Any clay you want to work with, moist “scrap” clay is great
- Basic tools
- Texture tools (Education has some you can use)
- Slip to match you clay
- Underglazes, Stroke & Coat glazes if you have them (Education has some you can try out).
Instructor
Michele is an artist, retired school counselor and art teacher. On the first day of class her students always asked, “When are we doing clay?” And, of course, upon moving to SCW her first question was, “When can I join the clay club?!”
She is a former education co-chair, a former Beginning Hand Building teacher, and teaches a variety of other classes throughout the year.
