Organic Coil Pots

Lorraine will begin this class with a demonstration showing you how to hand roll even shaped coils as well as her method of attaching coils, and how to begin the organic shape you want to create. She will then demonstrate how to blend the coils to create a smooth surface inside and outside the pot.
Students will have time to make a pot or two that will leather up during the lunch break. After lunch she will demonstrate how she works to decorate her work with underglazes and sgraffito on the leather hard pot. Underglazes will be available for students to try if they want to begin glazing their pot.
Supplies to bring:
- B-Mix clay
- Basic tools
- Metal and rubber ribs
- Small sponges
- Underglazes if you have them: Education has some you can use.
We will take a lunch break, so bring a lunch with you.

Instructor
Lorraine has an MA degree in Art History from ASU and worked many years as a docent at the Phoenix Art Museum. She began studying and working in ceramics in the 1980’s, but it was more recent classes at Shemer Art Center that inspired her to begin building with coils. Her current work reflects her interest in nature and the organic shapes of plants.
